Version 3.1 Release

Rosetta Studio Version 3.1 has now been released.  This version contains a number of new features that greatly enhance the ability to automate adhoc presentations using generate.

Major New Features

Data Binding – You’ve always been able to insert slides from existing PowerPoint presentations when generating, but we’ve now transformed that ability into a powerful tool which will allow you to make updates to those inserted slides.  The data binding feature allows you to insert slides from existing presentations, bind new data to them and generate newly updated slides leaving all manual changes intact.

Now when you insert a slide from another presentation Rosetta scans it and gives you a list of all of the objects it finds on the slide.  If the object is a chart or a table Rosetta will allow you to scroll through a list of all of the data tables in your presentation and select one to bind to the chart or table.

Data binding allows Rosetta to reproduce highly customized chart types that generate otherwise could not create.

It also allows you to take advantage of the fact that all adhoc presentations have common elements.  Imagine for example creating a presentation that contains all of your most commonly used slides – simply import the slides you need, bind new data to them and generate your newly updated presentation.

Slide Templates – This feature allows you to load multiple objects (charts or tables) onto a single slide with full control over the layout of the objects; the only limit on how many objects you can place on a slide is the readability of the final product.

With slide templates any number of charts and/or tables can be placed on the same slide, and each of those charts or tables can be individually customized.  You can then very easily graphically size and position each object on the slide.

Slide templates can then be saved for use similar to chart, table, and data templates.

Minor New Features and Enhancements to Existing Features

Slide Range for Update and Populate – Update and populate have been modified so that – similar to generate – you can control which specific slides to update or populate.

Need to bring in new data for one table?  No longer do you need to update or populate the entire presentation.

Want to quickly test some complex conditional tagging?  Populate a single slide from within your shell and quickly preview the outcome of your work.

Next, Previous Buttons on Edit Question Form

Generate Button on Preview Form – The preview window has been modified with the addition of a new button that will allow you to generate the slide that you’re viewing.  This small feature will save several steps if you just want to generate one slide containing the chart or table that you’ve been working on.

Creation of Index Page in PowerPoint – An option has been added so that when you generate a presentation in PowerPoint you will have an index with the titles of each slide; this index can then be hyperlinked to the slides that the index entries refer to.

Search & Replace on Question Text – Rosetta can now search through all of the question text in the presentation and make changes.  If your client now gives you the proper name for Concept B-12, for example, rather than going back to tab or manually making the changes within Rosetta Studio you can use new the Question Text search and replace option to update your entire presentation in one quick step.

Non-Destructive Conditional Hiding – Safely layer your conditional hiding operations on top of any other hiding you’ve already enabled.

Data Label Positioning on Some Charts – Enhanced data label positioning options within generate.

Presentation Switcher When Using Populate

Custom Colour Palettes Export/Import and Switch – A valuable extension to custom colours has been added to Rosetta: you can now save your palette of custom colours and import it into another presentation.  This way you can have a palette for each of your clients and easily import the correct one.

Excel File Switcher – This feature has been added to allow for cases where you want to generate Excel presentations with larger sets of tables.  If there are more worksheets than Excel allows Rosetta will begin writing to a new file.

Custom Calculator Removal of Formulas

Boolean Logic for Conditional Tagging in Populate – Support for Boolean logic in the conditional tagging system further enhances the power of conditional tagging within Rosetta.
